Mitsubishi Repair: How to replace cigrette lighter of 1995 Galant LS, dumb thing, junk yard

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I recently plugged a hand held heater that required a 20amps rating into my cigarette lighter socket. I rating of the cigarette lighter socket is 15 amps. (yea dumb thing to do). Anyway, now I dont get any power in that socket. How do I fix it. Is this something complicated.
ANSWER: Julian: Did you check the fuse for the cigarette lighter? You might have blew out the fuse, if so just replace that and it should work again. But do becareful next time. :o) Hope this helps and good luck! Linda

QUESTION: Hi Linda,
That is the problem. The fuse is good. Nothing seems to be wrong there. Is there anything that I can do to fix the problem or do I have to take it to the mechanic.
Thanks in advance,
Julian

Answer
Julian:You will have to check at a part store to see if you might buy another cigrette lighter for your car. Then remove the old one that is in your car now and put in the new one. You will have to take apart the place where the cigrette lighter is in and see if you think you can fix it youself or take it to a shop. Before you start work on that though remember to unhook the neg cable off the battery, don't want to get a shock. If the parts store can not get you a new cigrette lighter though they should but if they can't you could check at a junk yard and get one out of a junked car. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
