Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Eclipse, black boxes, alienator

Question
I appreciate your help.

We have a '95 Eclipse, 5 sp 4cyl.  Just recently we have to start the vehicle every time by popping the clutch.  The starter, battery, alienator are all good.  Checked the fuses, but are not sure what relays are related to the ignition and where they are located.

Thank You,
John

Answer
John: I would have the car coded, any AutoZone will do this for free and it would rule out any problem with the computer or any sensors. Your car is in the right years for a piece in the computer going bad and with time kills off the whole computer. See Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company which did not build very good ones and this piece inside the computer will start to leak into the computer. So please do have your car coded sometime just to rule out any problem with that. Mean while my repair manual has this to say about your starting problem, broken, loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circuit, ignition switch faulty or the teeth worn or broken so the starter can not turn the motor as it should. I would say it is something to do with your ignition and have that checked first. Before you think about broke teeth. But do with time get that car coded too, it will rule out any problems you might have now the road. Oh yes, there are larger fuses and relays inside with the engine. When you open the hood look to the driver's side of the car, you should see a large black box up on the firewall. Then on the other side of the car should be two or maybe just one, every car is different. They would be on the left side of the car. Black boxes the tops tell what is in them, as of large fuses or relay. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda :o)
