Mitsubishi Repair: Plymouth laser water pump, gasket material, wooden mallet

Question
I removed the four bolts holding the water pump to the 1993 Plymouth Laser 1.8 SOHC, and it still will not come out.  What else is holding it in? Thanking you in advance for any assistance.
Chris

Answer
Chris,
With the 4 bolts removed, the water pump should be able to come off.  Sometimes the the gasket material and sealant can cause it to stick on there pretty tight.  I'd recommend giving it a few sharp taps with a rubber or wooden mallet to break it free.  Do not use a steel hammer to hit it, or do not try to pry it off with a pry bar or screwdriver.  That could gouge the mating surface on the block.  If you have a think paint scraper, you can try to scrape in the groove between the block and the pump to see if you can loose up some of the gasket material or sealant to help free it.
Good luck!
