Answer
Tom: You know don't you that Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to aother company. And in those computers a piece starts to leak and then kills off the whole computer? Maybe you should replace the computer? Could be something broke in the transmission and so it is really stuck in 3 gear. You need to get an Haynes repair manual for your car. It has a troubleshooting pages and will walk you through things to check. They cost around $20.00 at any parts store and is well worth the money.  The clutch is run by fluid but surely you have checked that to see that it has enough fluid in it. I once broke a very small hose in the engine but it helped control the clutch and so the car was stuck in a gear. But once we fixed that hose, the car came out of that. But again don't know if that is the same problem as your car. Oh did you clear or reset the computer? Other wise the computer will still think that problem is there. Take the neg.cable off the battery for 5 minutes or less. And that should clear the computer so see what helps you. I am only giving you ideas I am pulling off my repair manual. I hope this helps you some and good luck!
