Mitsubishi Repair: INTERMITENT MONTERO SPORT02 STALL, montero sport, static shock

Question
I have a 02 Montero Sport 73k miles, that wouldn't start, was jumped, ran 100 yards and died at a light.  While waiting for the tow truck I tried the key and it started 3x in a row. The shop has not been able to duplicate the problem. I previously had an issue with the radio and lights dimming while braking that was never duplicated and never recurred. The battery is 7 months old, and everybody who rides in the car gets a static shock when they shut their doors. I hope you can help!

Answer
Trevor: My guess would be that you have a short someplace. The way to find that would be get a good voltmeter, start with the battery and work yourself through the whole car, till you find the short. It would be more than one short too. You should try to get a repair manual for your car, should be able to buy one at any parts store for around $20.00. It would explain to you, what those reading should be and how to check the whole car with that voltmeter. But that has to be a short, one that does not always happens. Sometimes things like weather, what different roads you drove on and the such; as that will cause the wire that is shorting to touch and so short. So therefore it would be hard for the shop to duplicate the problem. It will come and go; till you find the problem. The only way I know is to use that voltmeter. You could try to have your car coded as the computer might be part of the problem but I think it is a short. As long as everyone that shuts their doors is getting a shock. But keep at it till you find that short, I know at times when looking for one myself; I thought I would pull my hair out before I found the short. But with time I did find that problem and fixed it. I hope this helps and good luck!
