Chrysler Repair: Town & Country Water Pump Removal, chrysler town and country, inch pounds

Question
Engine Cooling problem
2006 Chrysler Town and Country 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 40000 miles

Hi,

I removed all the drive belt, removed the pulley bolts, and removed the pump mounting bolts. However, there just seems not enough space in front of the pump to be able to pull it out completely. I tried tilting to every angle. Have spent hours on it. Just can't pull it out. How can this be? Is there a trick to pull it out?

Thanks,

Kamran

Answer
Hi Kamran,
I assume you have a 3.3/3.8L engine. My '02 manual says that you have to remove the 3 pulley bolts, then rotate the pulley so that its openings align with the pump hub "spokes" which allows the pulley to move inward toward the pump, Then rotate the pulley/hub so as to allow you to remove the pump bolts (I guess you already did this). Then with the pulley loosely sitting between the hub and the pump body you should have room to remove the pump.
Install is the reverse. Tighten pump bolts to 105 inch-pounds, tighten pulley to hub bolts to 250 inch-pounds.
