Mitsubishi Repair: TRANSMISSION, automatic transaxle, cv boots

Question
MY WIFE HAS A 96 ECLIPSE. THE PROBLEM SHE HAS IS EVERYTIME SHE TURNS A CORNER THE TRANSMISSION QUITS SHIFTING. I HAVE CHECKED THE FLUID AND IT IS FULL. THE TRANSMISSION HAS THE OVERDRIVE SELECTION BUTTON. I KNOW THAT YOU CAN RESET THE COMPUTER IF THE OVERDRIVE QUITS. I DO THIS PROCESS AND IT IS FINE UNTIL SHE TURNS A CORNER AGAIN. THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND PLEASE HELP ME.

Answer
Tom:Hard question...Though the fluid is full, what color is it? And does it smell burnt? You could try putting in a new filter and new fluid to see if that helps. It would be an easy fix, other wise how is the cv boots on both wheels? There is also a inner cv boot too. How is it? Can she hear anything when all this happens? Does it make any differents how she takes the corner, I mean speed wise? Could be there is an shift cable that needs adjusted or it could be your whole tranmission is going bad. Or it even could be your computer, as Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company. And these computers go bad, when they do they cause all kinds of things to happen in the cars. The automatic transaxle is pretty hard for a home mechanic to properly diagnose and service so it better that you take it to a shop. Wish I could help you more.I do tell people to go get a repair manual for their cars. You can pick one up at any parts store for around $20.00. It would then explain things to you and they have good pictures too. Hope this helps and good luck.
