Mitsubishi Repair: 99 eclipse spyder gst (had timingbelt replaced/now no power), crankshaft sensor, eclipse spyder

Question
I have a couple of prior post about this problem and with getting to drawn out here ..the first post was about my car running out of or very low on oil turned it off immediately replenished the oil after engined cooled ckd the radiator it was fine but the car wouldnt start so after familarizing myself with this car started trouble shooting the problem from my haynes manual and post here and info at other sites (w/out a OBDII reader yet)came to the conclusion it was probably the crankshaft positioning sensor..well on the turbo model its behind the timing belt cover...just great! all the other motors there sensor seemed to be pretty easily accessable..so i dont have a garage and its raining like crazy up here in the NW..so anyways tow my car to this japanese motor transmission specialist..for diagnosis....there diagnosis was the same as mine crankshaft sensor..but also the toiming belt was oil soaked..but to make a long story short ..what happened was the motor got hot enough.. i guess!! and froze up balancing shaft while the crank was still turning and that shredded the balancing shaft belt which intern created long strands of belt whipping around at about a zillion miles an hour and they hit my sensor and broke it apart so thus lies the no start...which i seen for my own eyes because i went there unannounced when they were in the middle of fixing the problem and was able to sneak up behind the tech and watch him for about 10 min w/out him nowing it he was in the process of cking my oil pump sproket and bearing for freewheeling ..and all of the old parts were rite there on the floor the shredded belt and he showed me the frozen balance shaft and the broken positioning sensor...so from knowledge that i have learned in just the last couple of weeks...you don't really need or want those balancing shafts and especially the belt because it brakes sooner than your timing belt because of life expectancy on them and more times than not will hit your timing belt and break it or knock it off a couple of teeth and cause major damage to the interference engines..which i have... so i told them to leave it off...should of seen there eye balls at first ..i caught them by surprise..because who knows what they were going try and sell me on that frozen shaft problem... to make a long story short.left the belt off replaced the timing belt, crankshaft positionoing sensor, new seals all the way around even on the balance shaft and a new water pump which i bought for $50.00 instead of $150.00  and they put it on for no extra charge, thanks to LINDA'S advice..thank you linda!!... but they didnt put any new sprokets, bearings or tensioner on they said they would contact me if they were needed..(that makes me very leary) everything i've read is to the contrary....anyways they call tell me my cars ready but the mechanic took a test drive and oring behind the oilcooler needs replaced leaking oil..i tell them no problem i'll fix that..so i get my car and all the old parts except the seals and i for got to ask for them.... (alot going on thanksgiving eve)so im checking my oil before i leave when i get home only have to go 10 blocks i decided to drive alittle more wanting to test drive my car checked oil again trying to get a feel for how bad it was leaking..(raining like crazy) so it looks like Valdez oil spill..and it is a pretty constant drip..but NO dealer or parts house has that o/ring instock..GONNA HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST A WEEK BECAUSE OF THE HOLIDAYS..but after driving it i've gone around 2 miles in it and everthing seems to be fine starts rite up idles smoother than i thought after leaving the balancing belt off...but realized there is no acceleration power no turbo boost wont even spin the tires on wet pavement and seems like the RPMs are running high on the guage for the speed i was going....
and there was a burnt rubber smell and a little smoke when i popped the hood too ck the oil once..so my question is what in the process of a timing belt replacement could cause this problem?
so i immediately took it backto the shop and had the tech take it for a test drive again and he agreed there was no power but of course the tech doesnt speak english translating through manager which i'm thinking is the owners son..anyways to late wed. nite to look at it so i have to bring it back on monday 11-27-06 now i've lost 4 days on my 30 day labor warranty already...
and is there anythings i can ck out before i take it back to them so i dont get any bullshit stories..
compression test or a code reading perhaps and whats a leak down test?
thanks gary

Answer
Gary:A compression test would be good, even having the car coded would be good, got an AutoZone close by? They will coded your car for free. Your book has a "Troubleshooting" part and it explains things to check for. So that should help with some ideas. I think a leak down test is to check for a vacuum leak but could cause the problem with no speed. But hey, I am not sure about that on the leak down test, so maybe you should check with other sites. You need to read up on your manual and when they start talking about things. Either you will have read about these things or say wait I need to check that out before I agree to that. You can do this, it is after all YOUR car. I am glad things are going somewhat well for you. I wish that other than then the oil leak the car had run good with speed and all. But your day shall shine. But hey if there is anything else I can do for you, please do write again. I got to say there are things I don't know about. I always try to check my books and asked friends. I have got into trouble for things I wrote but again I always try to make sure what I write to as close to things as it can be. You get a break in your wet weather, take your book and go out to check as many things as you can. That way you will have knowledge and they will not be able to throw any bullshit your way. Oh you should be getting some better weather, I live in Iowa and the sun is shining here. Going to be gone for a few days but keep me posted! Hope this helps and good luck!
