Mitsubishi Repair: Leaking Problems, mitsubishi spyder eclipse, water mark

Question
Hi Linda,

I have a Mitsubishi spyder eclipse GT (convertible) 2003. The problem I am currently having is that when there is a significant amount of rain or a storm the passenger side floor from front to back ends up soaking wet, the weird part is the the seats do not get wet nor does the driver side. Now I know convertibles leak in the rain, but it shouldn't be like this. I've taken the car to my mechanic and he can't seem to find where it could be leaking from. Is there a problem with this model I should know about? Do you have any idea what could be causing this or where I should be looking? Please help, I can't afford to get the car detailed every time it rains, the car gets moldy and that's a health issue.
thank you,
Mahnaz

Answer
Mahnaz: Just ideas on my part where or how the water is getting into your car. Next time you know there will be a lot of rain, try covering the side where the water ends up with something that will let the water mark a trail on it. But here is some ideas for you, the seal is leaking up by the windshield, so the water runs down the glass, through the dash and onto the floor. Try replacing the seals on your top. Could be body leaks, your car was redone with a new; well different front end from 2002 to 2003. So maybe they did not get the parts to fit together as they should. The water could be leaking through the glass in the door and then leaking down to the floor. Water could be leaking through the firewall and then ending up on the floor. The problem is that water can come in one place and then run along something to end up on the floor. I know I am not being very much help here. Get a manual for your car, check out how the body is put together and then look for places that water might be able to leak into the car. A manual at a parts store will cost around $20.00 but well worth the price. Never thought of getting a place to live with a garage too? Well just an idea. Because sometimes you just never find out where a car is leaking. How about a car cover, they got some pretty good ones for not to much money too. It would keep the rain out and the paint looking good. Hope this helps and good luck!
