Question
Hi Linda -

Cat again...I took my car in and thank god it wasn't the transmission, fortunately it was only the input speed sensor that needs to be replaced.  My question to you is...do you know where this is located on my car because I want to do the work myself and from what guys say at the transmission shop it's an easy fix?

Thanks Again,
Cat

-----Question-----
Hello Linda -

While I was driving home yesterday, my car suddenly down shifted (automatic) on it's own and made a "bang" noise.  The neutral light on the dashboard started blinking and my check engine light came on.  As I accelerated I could tell that the car wasn't automatically shifting into gear, like it was stuck in one gear.  As it accelerated it took about 30 seconds to really start going.  Do I need a new transmission or is this a easy fix?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cat

Cat: When is the last time you checked the transaxle fluid? You could try to change the fluid and filter see if that helps it at all. Smell the fluid does it smell burnt or is it brown in color? The fluid should be red in color. Could be the throttle valve cable is out of adjustment. Neutral start switch might be malfunctioning. But listen if the problem persists, have a shop check out out. Because you really do not want to replace the transaxle, very costly. Hope this helps and good luck!

Cat: Got a friend that might work on cars? Get a repair book on your car and then work on it. Other wise, not really sure because I do all my own work. But check with some shops in your area and see what they come up with. For right now, just explain that you want the fluid and filter changed. Don't tell about the other things, some shops will tell you, that you need all kinds of things when you do not. Hope this helps and good luck!

Answer
Cat: Remember I told you to get a repair book on your car? It will show you where that is, with pictures and all then walk you through how to change it. With out the kind of engine you have, I can not answer this question other by guessing and I do not want to do that. So get that book, if you are going to be the proud owner of a car, you need your repair book on that car. Hope this helps and good luck!
