Mitsubishi Repair: hesitation, emission control system, distributor shaft

Question
a head job was performed on my 98 mirage and the fuel pump was replaced but when i press the gas peddle no power only at idle it seem to have power what can i do?

Answer
Claude: Who did the head job or replaced the fuel pump, I think I would take the car back to them. To see what they think is wrong. Other wise my book has many ideas, I will give you some of them. This is under "engine lacks power", just one thing for an engine to idle does not cause much of a load for the engine but when you press the gas peddle, you are wanting the engine to have power. So this might be what is wrong, incorrect ignition, excessive play in distributor shaft, worn rotor, distributor cap or wires, faulty plugs, fuel injection system out of adjustment, faulty coil, fuel filter clogged or impurities in the fuel system, emission control system not working right, compression pressures low or uneven and a vacuum leak. You do not put down how many miles it has on it or if the check engine light is on. If that is on then it could be a sensor out. I hope this gives your some ideas to check, always a good idea to get a repair book on your car and good luck!
