Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Diamante Crankshaft Position Sensor, crankshaft position sensor, crank angle sensor

Question
1998 Diamante ES Auto. I went to get my check engine light read on the computer and it said crankshaft position sensor, then when I wen tback outside to crank my car nothing happened. so I got some advice to bump the starter (bang it a little) then it started right up. Is these two problems the same. Can the sensor be replaced fairly easily (intermediate repair level)

Answer
Von,
The two problems probably are not related.  If you need to tap the start motor to get it to turn, that usually indicates your start motor needs to be replaced.  If you live in a region that gets cold in the winter months, its a good idea to replace it before it starts getting cold out.

Replacing the crank angle sensor can be difficult, and unless you have experience with replacing your own timing belt and setting your own timing, it would be best to have a mechanic (I'd recommend the dealership for this) replace that for you.  The sensor costs around $50-$60.
Good luck!
