Mitsubishi Repair: Room Lamp Radio Fuse, fuse box, running lights

Question
I have a 95 Talon, 2.0 with a 5 speed Manual (Figures Eclipse and Talon are pretty similar cars.)

My radio recently stopped working and I checked all the fuses and found that it was the radio fuse under the dash. After putting a new radio fuse back in, my running lights wouldn't turn off. There's a room lamp fuse below it, and if I pull that out the lights turn off, but my radio again stops working. I have to have both fuses in for the radio to work but the running lights stay on. >.<

Any help is appreciated!

Answer
Steve,
It sounds like you have a short circuit in your running lights switch, or possibly in the fuse box itself.  A short can cause fuses to blow, and that's what could have initially caused your radio fuse to blow.  Many of those fuses are multi-purpose, which control funcitonality of many different eletrical components.  Unfortunately, neither your owners manual or the fuse chart on the fuse box cover will tell you all the different components each fuse is responsible for.  But if you have access to a voltmeter (or know someone who is handy with one), you may be able to track down the short yourself.  Else, you may need a mechanic to help out.
Good luck!
