Mitsubishi Repair: wiper switch and wiper motor location, volt source, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. My wipers stopped working. Checked the fuses, they are fine. Trying to find out where the wiper switch and motor is located. Which one do I change out?

Answer
Brenda,
The switch for the wiper motor is located in the multi-switch located within the steering column knob.  The OEm part number for the switch is MB953678, and goes for $70-$85 new from the dealership.

The motor is located under the hood (I believe under a cover) on the firewall of the passenger side.  There is a connector for the motor that should also be checked.  The OEM part number for the wiper motor is MR191433.  It goes for about $140-$180 new from the dealership.

Unless you have the money to replace both, I would not get either part until you know for sure what the problem is.  You can test the wiper motor pretty easy by hooking up a 12 volt source (e.g the car battery) directly to the motor to see if it activates.  The switch is more difficult to test, since you'll need to know the wiring diagrams for it, and the voltage and resistance tolerances.  This can usually only be found in the factory service manual.  You may want to have a mechanic check this for you if you don't feel confident in doing it yourself.
Good luck!
