I have a 92 Eclipse with the 1.8L I just purchased and the auto tranny was recently replaced by previous owner. It came out of a 92 Eclipse with a 2.0L.

Problem is it will shift manually from park to reverse to neutral to drive (vice, versa), however when driving in Drive gear, it will not start out in 1st gear and go to 2nd. When I manually shift from D to L or 2, it still will not downshift. It starts and ends in 3rd gear.
The fluid level and color are normal.TCU codes are:

41 shift control solenoid A open
45 pressure control solenoid open
47 damper clutch control solenoid open
85 pressure control solenoid

No engine codes; all tranny codes. Does this shed any light on the issue?

Jeff,
This is a unique set up since it's not common to swap a 2.0L transmission onto a 1.8L engine.  What I would guess would be that the TCU and/or eletrical harness may be the problem.  You should have a transmission shop first inspect the eletrical system on the transmission first.  But if the eletrical looks ok, the tranny itself may really have a problem and would probably need to be rebuilt or replaced.
Good luck!

I found a loose connection to the tranny. It has four wires leading to it.  It looks like a solenoid plug and is adjacent to the dip stick. One of the wires is broken.  I need a schematic/name of part I need to replace.  I had tried removing the part but it was pushed inside the tranny and now I have to drop the pan. Would this be a possible cause of my TCM codes?  Do you have the name/schematic of the part?

Thanks again,

Jeff

Answer
Jeff,
You may be referring to the A/T Case Solenoid Valve Harness or the A/T Case Inhibitor.  The inhibitor connection is the closest of the two to the dip stick.  It's part number is MD734632.  Unfortunately, my parts database does not provide a part number for the case solenoid valve harness.  But you may even have luck going to the dealership and asking the guys at the parts department what that part may be.  They've helped me out with a lot of tricky parts names.  Have your VIN ready if you do talk to the parts guys.  They can't look up parts without it.  And yes, any loose or broken eletrical connections of the A/T system can throw those codes you mentioned.
Good luck!
