Car Stereos: No sound.., bench test, catorgories

Question
I know you are for car stereo, but the other catorgories were all maxed out, so I hope you can answer this.  I have a RCA RS2654 Stereo System, and it worked perfectly for just over a year, then it stopped producing any sound what so ever.  It turns on and the screen shows that it is working fine.  The speakers are fine, I have connected, reconnected, switched the speakers several times.  If I turn up the sound to the max, I can hear a buzz in the speakers, and I can hear the speakers click when I change the volume.  There is absolutely no music coming out of the speakers no matter what the source is.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Brad

Car audio and home autio are pretty similar in a lot of ways, the main difference is the whole AC/DC thing.  It sounds to me like your receiver has some internal damage.  If neither (or none of the) channels are working, you might have a blown out amplifier.  Basically, depending on how expensive your unit is, you need to determine if its cost is enough to consider repair.  I'd bring it in to a repair shop.  Most guy will charge around 30 bucks for a bench test to tell you what's wrong with it.  If the unit is less expensive, i'd say just go get a new one.

Hope that helps

Dave
