Mitsubishi Repair: 1992 3000 gt, vacuum leaks, piston rings

Question
i recently bought a 1992 mitsubishi 3000 gt. is has about 120k on it.  when i test drove it it ran fine, but a few weeks later one day it just stoped running.  the symtoms are it will crank over and start fine then when it goes to idle it dies within 5 seconds.  it will start right back up but does the exact same thing again.  if i start it and try reving it up a bit, it will but dies even quicker.  i changed fuel filter, plugs, wires, checked the egr valve for sticking it was working fine, i checked continutiy on the tps and icu but they were working, applied 12 volts to the fuel pump conector on fire wall to activate pump, and it works fine, i checked for vacuum leaks or unpluged wires but found none.    what could it be? i have ask this question and found out nothing. can you help me?

thanks jeremy

Answer
Jeremy,
For your compression, 150 psi sounds correct, but 130 psi is a little low.  Put a few drops of oil on those cylinders that give the lower compression and do the compression test again.
If adding oil increases the pressure, then you should be ok. If they stay at 130 psi, that means you have a leak somewhere.  Probably either in the piston rings or the valves.

For your stalling problem, I would recommend checking the car's computer.  Read this article for more information:

If your ECU is malfunctioning, it can cause these stalls.  You can pull your ECU and visually inspect the circuit board for damage.  You should also check your cam angle sensor to be sure that it's functioning properly as well.  For some reason, your timing may be thrown off (or your computer thinks it is) after a few seconds of idling or revving.
Good luck!
