Mitsubishi Repair: 1995 Mitsubishi Montero 3.0 instrument lights, advanced auto parts, mitsubishi montero

Question
I have the same issue as a question you dealt with about 6 mo. ago (see below), except that the four lights do not go out when I accelerate.  I ran the car about 20 mi. pulled in the driveway and everything was fine.  About 2 hrs. later, I started the car and these 4 lights stayed on (a/t light, brake, battery, and maint req.).  The alternator gauge indicates that the system is charging fine and the car runs fine.  Is there anything else you know of that could cause this or do you still think the alternator is bad or going bad?  This is not the original alternator.  I replaced the original alternator about 4 years ago.

Below is the June 2005 Q&A I'm referring to -- Thank you very much for your help.

Question
Hi-
my 1995 mitsubishi montero has 4 instrument lights that glow. the four lights are a/t light, brake, battery, and maint req. its just a faint glow, but when you step on the accelerator the lights dim out.
what could be causeing this?

Answer
Adam,
This usually means your alternator is starting to go bad. Have your alternator and battery checked and replaced if your mechanic finds they are not producing enough power. If you're still using the original alternator that came with the car, odds are it's on it's way out. Most Mitsubishi alternators last around 10 years. It would probably be a good idea to replace your alternator drive belt as well.
Good luck!

Answer
Larry,
It can't hurt to get your alternator and battery checked out.  Auto parts stores like AutoZone, PepBoys and Advanced Auto Parts can check your alternator and battery for free.  But for all of those lights to come on usually means there is a problem with your charging system.  I had the same problem happen to my Eclipse after less than 12 months of having the alternator replaced.  My problem turned out to be a bad diode  and I had to get another alternator.
Good luck!
