Mitsubishi Repair: Accesory Charger in console is not working, mitsubishi montero sport, mitsubishi montero

I have 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS.  Recently the port in the center console that I use to charge my cell phone and Palm has stopped charging them.  The power light on the charger cords light up when I plug them in, but the phone or Palm never get charged.  I changed the fuse under the dash, I bought a new charger for my phone and other people have enen tried to charge thier phone with no results.  What can I do?

Sometimes the contact in socket plug can get debris or corrosion built up in it and prevent enough current flow to charge devices like PDAs, cell phohes, and others.  

I believe your model also has a cigarette lighter socket below the radio.  You should try to use your phone charger in there to see if it works.  It puts out the same amount of power as your center console socket.  You can also attempt to put the cigarette lighter into the socket in the center console and see if that heats up the element in the cigarette lighter.  If the cigarette lighter socket beneath the radio works for charging your phone, but you just cannot get the center console socket to work, you may need to have the center socket replaced.
