Mitsubishi Repair: Fuel system, blown fuses, fuel pump relay

Question
My 17 yr old daughter is away at school and has a 98 eclipse, 2.0 L, 5 sp manual tranny. She had the fuel pump replaced after her car was not getting fuel. Her car started fine after it was complete. She drove it, shut it down, started it a second time and now it will not start again. Her "mechanic" friend (saying that very loosly) checked for burned out fuses and found none. Is there a shut off switch or something that you may be aware of that might be able to help us? Thank you sincerely Kathy Cathcart

Answer
Kathy,
If there are no noticable blown fuses, it's possible the fuel pump relay could have gone bad.  Also, the car's computer controls the fuel flow.  If the car's computer detects that an inadequate amount of air or fuel getting to the engine, it will shut off the car.  Also, if the car's computer detects the engine timing is off, it will not send fuel to the engine; which prevents the engine from starting.

Have a regular mechanic check the fuel system, ignition system, air intake system, and have the timing checked.  The problem will most likely be found there.
Good luck!
