Mitsubishi Repair: weird noise while engin is running, balance shaft, weird noise

Question
i have a 92 eclipse 2.0 gs manual. I started my car the other day and it started making a weird noise like dirt inside of a pair of bearings. also when i put it neutral and rev it up to about 4 grand the engine sounds like its going to break. the noise sounds like its coming from around the oil pan. the car runs fine shifts fine that noise just drives me crazy!

Answer
Chris,
It's possible your oil pump gears are wearing.  Check your oil level and replace the oil if it seems real dirty.  Also, if your timing belt has not been replaced within the last 60,000 miles, I would recommend you do it.  Plus, while the timing belt is off, your mechanic can easily check your oil pump gears, seals, and your water pump.  If your problem is a bearing, it may be the bearings on the balance shaft(s).  Those can also be inspected once the timing belt is off.
Good luck!
