Mitsubishi Repair: 89 VR4 overheating problem, coolant leaks, radiator cap

Question
I just buy a second hand '89 VR4 car and suddenly i get know that i have an overheating prblem. I have changed a second hand MIVEC radiator and the problem is still persist. So, what is your suggestion for this problem? Am i have to service the radiator, check the radiator hose or the water pump?

Answer
Masri,
First, make sure you have the correct amount of coolant in your system, and there is no air bubbles.  Then, you may want to replace your thermostat and radiator cap.  Look around for any coolant leaks on the ground.  If there are any leaking hoses, replace them.

But if you need to replace you water pump, you'll also want to consider replacing your timing belts and tensioners.  Because you have to remove your timing belts anyway to access your water pump, this would be the perfect time to replace the timing belts.  The timing belts for that engine are extremely critical and should be replaced every 45k-60k miles. If you do not know if the previous owner had replaced the timing belts within the last 45k-60k miles, have it done as soon as possible.  Have the water pump and tensioners changed, along with the thermostat and radiator cap.
Good luck!
