Answer
Anne,
I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what's happening from your description.  But it sounds as if perhaps your clutch is engaging a little too early, or your idle is set too high and it's flooding out as soon as you start to release the clutch while in gear.  This could be caused by the clutch master cylinder.  It may just need to be adjusted.  It's also possible the clutch pressure plate itself is grabbing too quickly due to a misalignment within the clutch assembly.  If you have around 75k-100k miles on your current clutch, it may be time for a replacement.

But beyond that, it would be hard to even guess another possible cause for your problem.  If you find out any more information about your problem or any other ailments, I'd be happy to try to help out more.
Good luck!
