Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 Eclipse GT Headlight short, mitsubishi eclipse gt, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 3.0 V6 Auto w/autostick
The passenger side headlight is extremely dim, almost out. I noticed that the connector to the bulb was melted and brittle. I replaced the connector with a Mitsubishi replacement pigtail, with no improvement. I also replaced the bulbs, with no improvement. I was very careful to ensure that the pigtail was wired correctly. Is this a short, and where is the most likely location to begin checking?

Answer
Daryl,
It does sound like a possible short, or a poor ground connection somewhere in the headlight circuit.  Also, check your headlamp relay to be sure it's firmly connected.

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the wiring at the bulb.  If you're receiving anything signifigantly less than 12 volts right at the bulb connection, there is a short or poor ground somewhere.  If that is determined, you'll need to trace back all the way on the circuit until you find where voltage drop is occuring.  It may be something as simple as a fraid wire.  Most likely, this is a simple problem with a simple fix.  If you don't have a voltmeter or know how to use one, try to find someone that does, and that can assist you on how to use it. If you take the car to a mechanic, I'd be afraid they charge too much for this fix.
Good luck!
