Mitsubishi Repair: transmission, linkage problem, grizzle

Question
I purchased a Mitsubishi LR 2.4 and the transmission will go in reverse but not forward. Will I have to have a whole new transmission or can I just rebuild this one?

Thanks so much,

Roy Grizzle

Answer
Roy,
Any transmission can be rebuilt.  Your tranny may not even need to be rebuilt at all.  You may just have a linkage problem that needs to be adjusted.  Another possibility is that there is a malfunction of the rear clutch or piston; which is what controls the forward motion.  First have your car inspected at a transmission specialty shop.  Your average local mechanic may not be equipped and not have sufficient transmission knowledge.
Good luck!
