Mitsubishi Repair: Tail/Brake Lights Will Not Shut Off, mitsubishi dealership, best bet

Question
Dear Anthony,
I have a 1996 Mits. Galant ES and when I brought the car I saw the alarm indicator button, but the dealer never mentioned the alarm worked. A few days later the alarm started going off and the only way to turn it off was to take the battery cable apart. Now I have to do this everyday. Wher I bought the car from is actually 10 hours away from where I moved start a new job, that's why I haven't taken the car back. To top it off now my back lights will not go off. Someone stated that they are my brakes lights and it electrical. Is this related to the faulty car alarm? Can I try and fix it? I don't mind trying. What do I do?
Thanks

Answer
Nette,
Any Mitsubishi dealership can inspect your alarm.  There is a chance that the car had an aftermarket alarm installed.  Just about any car alarm install shop can determine that.  There's a chance your brake light problem may have to do with your faulty alarm, but your best bet would be to get the problem with your alarm straightened out first.

Unless you're familiar with your ignition system and wiring underneath your dash, I would not try attempting to fix your alarm.  If it is a factory installed alarm, and you start trying to mess around with the alarm, you might do more harm than good.  Have your system inspected by a professional and you might get both problems fixed at once.
Good luck!
