Motorcycle Repair: Screaming eagle exhaust

I recently had a minor crash with my Softail Deluxe (2005) and damaged the exhaust. There is a deep scratch/dent on the underside right on the back of the exhaust.

My insurer got a non-Harley repair person to quote for repairing this and re-chroming @ 1/3 the cost of a new V&H exhaust. Harley technician state that this cannot be repaired successfully and quoted for a new V&H. My insurer naturally opted for the repair, but I am extremely unhappy about this.

I would like your view on this please.

I would tell my insurance agent. There is NO WAY i will ever allow a strightened and rechromed exhaust system install on my bike. Either New or none. See you and your company in small clams COURT.
