Motorcycle Repair: flooded HDs, water seeps, exhaust pipes
02 fatboy
2006 streetglide was flooded in hurricane sandy.  Bike was on a jack and took water about 2 inches up on the boxes.  Water got into the exhaust pipes, but not the entire engine etc.  The water was a mix of rain and bay water so it was some salt water.  Is it true that the entire frame is compromised as water seeps in and it will rust from the inside out?

Was probably underwater for 3-5 hours.  Bike was rinsed with fresh water, air hosed dry and dialactic grease on all contacts.  Also have a 2002 fatboy that took water higher as it was not off the ground.

sending pix of both water lines...rider ins. is totaling them both.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
I am sorry to hear about the storm and I am hoping and praying that everybody recovers from this.

There always a possibility rusting can happen, but it would take years for that to happen. Also, you have to remember, people ride in the rain and no water seeps in. I have worked on bike from the 40's and 50's and no rust thru. Make sure you get all the salt off, since that would cause the most damage and you should be fine.

Good luck and keep your spirits up
