Motorcycle Repair: clutch, stock clutch, steel plates

Question
Hi Mike, I have a clutch question for you. 1975 superglide rebuild-stock clutch; all disks have been cleaned and checked and all steel plates are flat not warped and installed in correct order. I tried to follow manual as best I could---with bike running and I shift into 1st-the bike jumps forward and stalls. The hand control is very hard to squeeze ( so I know I have to adjust there )what else should I look into as a possible fix. Thanks for all your help during this rebuild---Greg

Answer
If the bike is pulling foward when the clutch is pulled then the clutch is to loose. Recheck the adjustment at the clutch. When doing this make sure you have alot of slack in the cable. Once you have that adjustment set then go to the cable and adjust it so you have about 1/8 inch play in the lever
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
