Motorcycle Repair: Speedo and Tach 1972 175cc Honda Scrambler K6, honda scrambler, ebay auctions

Question
Hey Bill,
I've Been working on my 1972 175cc Honda Scrambler K6 & got it to fire up today THANKS to some previous advice from you, kind sir. Now just need to sort out some speedo and tach issues. When the bike was previously running, after revived from a 15+year hibernation in a dry basement..both speedo and tach worked. At some point both speedo and tach's needles bounced around wildly then retired. In addition to swapping out cables, What internal serviceable components should I give some attention and how do I go about this?  I have some service manuals but cant find instructions on these procedures.  Thanks again, =JB= in Ohio

Answer
James, the units are not really serviceable. Some speedo shops can pry them open and lubricate the bushings if they aren't too far gone. Try working some synthetic oil into the space between the inner stem/bushing where the cable attaches. New meters are often listed on Ebay auctions and might be cheaper than having them repaired. Sorry, no easy answers for this condition.
