Motorcycle Repair: Lack of focus bites me again, transmission gear, flu like symptoms

Question
QUESTION: Sir; I am attempting to rebuild the motor on my 2004 sportster.I disassembled the transmission gear by gear laying them out in the order they were removed from both main and counter shafts. My failure in using a temporary work stand left them rolling on the floor and me feeling flu like symptoms.I am really at a loss as how I can identify each gear to reassemble this transmission.Stupid is as stupid does and I definitely know better.I hope you understand this my one and only chance to get in to see the Wizard. Thank you,Ray

ANSWER: Do you have a service manual?

QUESTION: Sir; I do have the Harley 2004 sportster service manual. What I am looking for is a positive identification of each gear such as number of teeth on 1st main,1st counter etc.Thank you,Ray

Answer
Forgot to ask, do the gears have any numbers on them? If they do I can tell you which gear it is. I dont have anything from harley that says how many teeth each gear has.

35762-89  1st gear mainshaft
35763-89  1st gear countershaft
35771-89  2nd mainshaft    3rd countershaft
35772-89  3rd mainshast    2nd countershaft
35773-89  4th mainshaft
35775-89  4th countershaft
35034-89  main drive gear
35633-89  counter drive gear

Now go to www.vtwinmfg.com
Click guest
Go to the bottom of the page and click OEM X-REF
in the box type the part number and it will give you a part number for that company.
Click it and it will pull up a pic of the gear
If you click the pic it will get bigger and yu should be able to match up your gears
