Motorcycle Repair: 06 nightrain steering head adjust, head nut, drag bars

Question
with stock drag bars of 26 in. wide, front end will fall to either side too easily, it seems. I'm installing wider bars, and i also want to tighten up steering head.  please advise how, and if it is a huge job.

To check to see if they need adjusted, have the bike sitting on a stand where the front wheel is off the ground. WIth the wheel sitting inline whith the frame, pull the wheel foward and backwards. If there is play then it need adjusted. If no play then its fine.
If it needs adjusted then locate the locknut for the stearing head nut. Its on the upper triple tree. loosen it and then tighten up the stearing head nut slightly. The steering head does turn very easily normally
