Motorcycle Repair: Another SL350 not charging, honda sl350, k1 usa

Question
After riding a while with the headlight on....it started running poor...once I turned off the light..it ran great.  I also just have a history of not having the battery charge while riding.

The manual says to test voltage..connect one side of the tester to yellow OR to white. Then the voltages should range between 12.5 and 15 depending on the RPM.
When I connected the yellow...I got nothing...when I connected to the white...I got 14 volts.  Since I did not get any voltage from the white...is that a clear indicator that my stator is bad?

Can I replace the stator without removing the rotor?

Thanks

Answer
Ken, all stator wires should have power coming out. See wiring diagrams at:

The stator is bolted into the engine under the dyno cover. It will come off without disturbing the rotor.

Go to www.electrosport.com for more troubleshooting tips on charging systems. I think any of the 350 twins stators should work on your bike. Some of them may have different wiring connectors, but electrically they are all the same and should mount the same, as well.

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-sl350-motosport-350-k1-usa_model733/partslist/E++12.h You have to remove the back sprocket cover, then the forward dyno cover. Get gaskets and o-rings to replace those that are disturbed during removal.
