Motorcycle Repair: Honda C110, carb adjustments, cmsnl

Question
I just recently acquired a 1963 Honda C110 that just need a carb kit to fix it. I'm just wondering how to set the idle and mixture screws so i can start it? I've bottomed them out i just don't know how far to back them off so it'll start to do the fine tuning.
Thanks a lot,
Jonathan

Answer
Jonathan, once you have the carb apart, you will see the function of each screw.

The idle speed screw (centered in the carb body) just raises the slide, so turning it all the way in will give you a VERY FAST idle, if the engine starts, so back it off until it just touches the slide, then turn it in 1/4 turn.

The mixture screw is located forward and adds additional air as the screw is backed out. Back it out about 1 to 1 1/4 turns to start. Once the bike is running and warmed up, you can fine tune this screw when the idle speed is established.

Before you try to do carb adjustments, adjust the valves, check the compression, clean and adjust the points so they just OPEN at the F mark alignment on the flywheel and engine case.
