Motorcycle Repair: CBX1000Z clutch slip on 4th, clutch repair, clutch plates

Question
Hi Jan,

My CBX is all of a sudden slipping on 4th gear when reaching 5-6000 rpm. Revs upp to 7000 just like that. More or less every test I did today.. Never had that experience w this bike. I checked the oil level next stop and it was down to Lower. I use Honda Mineral oil (10W30) and top of with the same if needed (ex every 400 miles). My question: Could the lower oil level cause a slipping clutch? Oil and filter etc was changed 3000 miles ago. Will change again now according to Maint Sched ( every 3 750 miles).

Or should I expect expensive clutch repair?

Thanks,
Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,

The test should give the same result in 5th gear, no the low oil level cannot cause a slipping clutch, you don't mention the mileage on the bike, but it sould like you need to take the clutch apart and measure the thickness of the clutch plates and check the springs.

Good luck,  Jan
