Motorcycle Repair: Tires for a 66 Honda Dream 300/CA77, honda cm200, honda dream

Question
My '66 Honda Dream 300/CA77 needs tires. What would you recommend in terms of makes, and sizes etc. Also, are there any tires to be wary of and is there a particular vendor that you've had good success with? Thanks, Bill.

Answer
Tony, the stock size tire for the rim size/width is 3.25x16" which is not common among manufactures now.

The Honda CM200 Twinstar used a 3.50x16 rear tire, but I think they are NLA.

There are not a lot of options for that specific size tire. Coker Tires has/had expensive whitewall tires in that size, but the tread pattern is more ribbed than universal and they only sell one tire for both ends. I hear complaints about tire wear, quality of rubber, etc.

Heidenau 3.50x16 tires are blackwall only and slightly larger than stock.

Pirelli and Michelin have offered 3.25x16 tires over the years, but I don't see them sold here in the US now.

Duro brand tires are the latest Asian sellers.

Do NOT use 3.00x16 tires on your bike!
