Motorcycle Repair: Charging on a 96 HD Fatboy, ac volts, volt regulator

Question
I have a 1996 HD Fatboy, I am at loss over this thing I had the battery tested which is fine, I will go about 20 miles and lose lights, speedometer. so this tells me, that its not charging, i replaced the volt regulator, and it seems to be in my Stator i am thinking, I have a multimeter, with VDC, and VAC, I have tried to check the stator, but I am not sure which setting to put meter on, On Vac, it has 2 settings 600, and 200. which one do i use, and what should it read while it is running, as I test the Battery, I was told it should be13 or higher i am only getting 12.5 at best! can you help i am getting frustrated here. Thank You!

Answer
You need to test the stator for OHMs first. At the plug for the stator you should show no OHMs from one pin to ground. Then do the other one. Next you test for AC volts. At the stator plug you should be getting around 60 AC volts. You will need to get another meter. Both settings for AC volts are to high.
Good luck and happy riding
