Motorcycle Repair: kawa kz 1000 weak spark, carburetor jets, kz 1000

Question
hey there i have a kawa kz 1000 started it once but now it does not wanna start up again i checked the spark but it is very weak were can i look for a problem thanx allan

Answer
Hi Allan,

If this is the older model pre 1979 KZ1000 it would
have contact points which would have to be
in good shape, gapped and the timing checked.

If it is a later model it would have
electronics. The main cause of
electronic ignition problems is
dirty and corroded contacts inside
the various ignition connectors.

Some electronic spray will help there
and reseating the connector plugs.

If the spark is adequate you can
try starting fluid to see if you
have a fuel supply problem.

Could have a weak fuel supply or
plugged carburetor jets.

The first thing is to check
if it is a fuel or spark problem
or even compression problems.

If it is the early KZ1000 I would
clean up the contact points under the
smaller right engine cover first
and charge the battery.
Make sure the points open .014".

Good luck!
