Motorcycle Repair: vulcan dies when put into gear, kawasaki vulcan 750, neutral safety switch

Question
HI,
I have a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. I recently had the headlight off to change it. Now the bike idles fine, stays running in gear with clutch pulled, but as soon as you even start to let the clutch out it instantly dies. The bike did sit for a while (year or so), but it just doesn't feel like a carb problem to me with the way it instantly cuts off. Any ideas? Does this bike a neutral safety switch and a clutch safety switch? Please help I'm desperate to ride!

Thank you,
Christine

Answer
Christine. The bike has a side stand safety switch that is supposed to shut the bike off if its put into gear ang letting out the clutch, its designed to kill the bikes igntion so you wont drive off with it hanging down causing a wreck later. Its possible the wire got disconnected and reconnected wrong or the switch could have gotten damaged check the switch first its down on the frame next to the pivot bolt on the side kick stand.
