Motorcycle Repair: kickstarter is dangling, gearbox oil, clutch cable

Question
How do i repair the kickstarter on a 1971 triumph 650 T120R when it is just dangling loose and will no longer grab the gear or spring back. Is it a tuff job to install a new spring and or gear ?

Answer
Hi Tino,

You will have to remove the footrest, pipe
or anything in the way of the gearbox cover
to inspect the kickstarter spring and gears.

You can leave the shift lever and kick lever
on as they will come off with the cover
once the screws are out.

The clutch cable may need to be unhooked also.

Use a block of wood or safe hammer
to tap the case off the gearbox.
Oil will come out so have a drain pan.

The spring and gears will be apparent once
the case is off.

It may not be too bad a job but check for parts first.
If you put the bike in fourth gear then
later you can hold the brake on to remove
the kick gear nut.

Good luck!
