Motorcycle Repair: yamaha fz750 carburetor, mikuni carbs, fz750

Question
I live in the Caribbean and i have an fz750. The carburetor is no good and i need a replacement, the problem is they are difficult if not impossible to obtain here. Is there a substitute i can use if i can't get an original one ? please advise me accordingly as i'm in a quandry as to my next move.

Answer
Darryl,

it is difficult to fit most other carbs
in as they need some modification, jetting etc.

-Most downdraft CV Mikuni carbs in the 34-36 mm range may
work but something like an older ZX750 Ninja
carb set and the intake spigots from
an FJ600 Yamaha are said to fit with some
work.
-Also the FZR1000 carbs may be adapted.
The problem is these carbs are hard to
install and get tuned correctly without
a dyno. Also hard to find in your area.

-There may be  a set of FZ750 carbs on eBay.
I think it would be alot less work to
hunt down the originals or rebuild
yours if possible but:

Maybe a better question is what carbs are
available in your area? Then you can
start measuring and comparing to see
if they will fit.
