Motorcycle Repair: 86 magna vf700, clutch slave cylinder, sized socket

Question
missed a gear/oil is leaking from behind clutch slave cylinder around the clutch rod. a oil seal comes with the slave cylinder rebuild kit. do i need to replace the seal in the case and if so, can i replace it without splitting the case. also there appears to be a small notch in the bottom of the casing where the slave cylinder goes into the case. can i replace the oil seal and a new slave cylinder gasket and a thin coating of atv sealant around the slave cylinder and hope for the best.   thank you

Answer
Seth, you can replace all the seals w/o splitting the cases. The notch allows excess fluid to drain down, signaling the need for maintenance. Do NOT fill it in with silicone sealant.

Use a small curved tool to get in behind the seal and pry it out towards you. Lightly coat the seal with oil and carefully install it your fingers, if possible. If it becomes difficult to fully install, use a same-sized socket on an extension to use as a seal driver, if you don't have a proper tool.
