Motorcycle Repair: 1982 Kawasaki KZ1100 Spectre, electronic ignition system, kawasaki kz1100

Question
I Realize that you don't answer questions other than Honda types but I need some assistance if possible. My bike quit firing on #2 & 3 cylinders and it may be my coil, any fuses or wiring to be checked to determine if coil is receiving power itself? Was running like a big dog yesterday morning.

Answer
Could be the coil, or the pickup.  More usually it is a broken , corroded, or disconnected wire.  You can see if the coil is getting power if you have a led test light, and see if the ground is being switched.  You will need to find out which wire on the coil is ground.  the ground is either switched by points or by magnetic pickup.  In 1982 most bikes had CDI or other electronic ignition system as standard, but the principle is still that the ground on the coil is switched on and off to generate the spark.  Good luck, Jan
