Motorcycle Repair: bandit 1200, cold weather lean condition

Question
hi dave. i have a 2002 suzuki 1200 bandit, the problem is in winter the bike runs really rough for instance when i pull in the clutch the bike will cut out and die i then use electric start but it will cut out again it stops after its warmed up and runs ok throttle action isnt very responsive, ive tried carb full additive but doesnt work. this only happens in winter and is fine the rest of the year. any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer
Hey Mike.It sounds to me like your bike is running lean, probably due to dirty carbs or incorrect jetting. In cold weather air is more dense, meaning your getting a lot more air than in warm weather, causing a lean air to fuel ratio. You can confirm this sometimes by slightly pulling out your choke once engine is warm.If engine runs better or the RPMs greatly increase than you probably need to get your carbs cleaned and jetting verified for your elevation.
