Motorcycle Repair: not charging, ac volts, dc volts

Question
i have a 93 sportster not charging i seen on some of your other answers it says you cant test a regulator but someone told me you could with a test light and if you get voltage its bad and  i did just wondering if u can help i dont get anything when i test the stator to the ground but when i touched the two stator pins together i do get like .1 or .2 when its running at idle i get 20 to 25 so i was wondering if you can straghtin this out for me

Answer
There is no test for the regulator. If the stator is good then you have to assumn that the regulator is bad.  Unplug the regulator from the stator. From each pin to ground you should get zero ohms. Pin to pin you should get ohms or contunity. Start at the bike and at around 2000 you should get around 50 AC volts. Make sure you test for ac not dc volts. If the stator passes then the regulator is bad
Good luck and happy riding
