Motorcycle Repair: fuel pac, air fuel mixture, fuel air mixture

Question
QUESTION: I ask about exhaust and mapping a few weeks back because the dealer wants a big price to do it when I install my exhaust and ac. I have a 2011 Hertigage and considering a Vance & Hines fuel pac. I have talked to several folks who have 2010's with it and say their bikes run great, what do you think?

ANSWER: Are you installing it yourself? If you are how do you know what your air/fuel misture is?

QUESTION: I would install myself, V&H straightshots & Arlen Ness Stage 1 + fuel pak for the Hertigage softail model and plugging in the values supplied by V&H to the fuel pak according to my exhaust & AC combination for the fuel/air mixture. My other (2) option would be to supply the parts and have Harley Dealership install @ re-map for an additional $700.00 or purchase the exhaust & AC from dealership, have them install & re-map for $1200.00. I am just looking for a way to get the best value for my money without damaging my new bike & not being dependent on the dealership. Different dealerships give different answers ie: you can do slip-ons and not re-map but adding AC = re-map. Another one will say you have to re-map if you add slip-ons but you have to add AC if you do that, very confusing information but reconize that it comes down to the $$.

Answer
The one thing I dont like about installing this type of fuel pac is that the download is generic. Vance & Hines have written downloads that is for all Hertigage Softtails with their exhaust and highflow intake. The problem lies in that, even though all the motors are the same, the all run a little different. It would be close and probably work just fine for you, but not dead-on, since you dont have any way to tell what the air/fuel mixture is.
You could always install the fuel pac and then later have the bike dyno tuned to make sure its correct. You dont have to go to a dealership to have that done. Independent shops would be cheaper.
Good luck and happy riding
