Motorcycle Repair: no spark, stator coils, comeing

Question
i have a 1988 honda zb50. I have replaced the CDI module and the ignition coil and have replaced the spark plug, have gone through and made sure my grounds are good have checked the fuse comeing off the battery. And still cant get any spark at one point i got spark for like 2 kicks but after that i havent been able to get any. I am at a loss of thoughts and just put a 88cc big bore on and would really like to make sure it runs. any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Vance

Answer
The next thing you can check is the pickup for the CDI. Being that you have replaced the previous two components check the resistance for the pickup on the motor. There should be two wires coming out the engine on one side. Make sure you are checking the pickup and not the stator. A repair manual can tell you which wires are which. Sometimes they will give a few shots of spark then fail. If you don't come up with anything there. Now you can check your stator coils and make sure there is the specified resistance. Usually on smaller CC motors the stator is a low output circuit and sometimes connected directly to the ignition system. If the stator is not supplying enough voltage the ignition system will not work. Anything else let me know. Thanks.
