Motorcycle Repair: Honda 305 Scramblers 66&67, honda scrambler, lynden wa

Question
I got them both running but neither would take a full throttle. They would hesitate and cough. I am North of Seattle in Lynden Wa,. Do you know of anyone around Seattle that rebuilds 305's?

I had a local shop work on one but I don't think it still runs like it should and let's just say I had a run in with the owner.

Thanks, Joe

Answer
Joe.... You might try to connect with other 305 owners at the Yahoo Group (honda305) to see if there are some enthusiasts up there. I have been in contact with another WA owner, who is having problems getting qualified assistance.

I do sell at CD full of Honda Scrambler info... 1,000 plus pages, including tune-up info.

Tuning 305s to run well is a careful process, but if you have good engines with about 175 psi compression, the rest is done by first setting point gaps and ignition timing accurately, then working with the carburetors. Note: carb slides are L&R side specific and people often swap them unawares, which causes some nasty running problems. Depending on your air filter/exhaust pipe configuration, usually a #130 main and #40 idle jet combo will do well in most 305 Scramblers.
