i bought a Yamaha virago 1986 it set for 4 years don't no all the history body in somewhat good shape but the gas tank is rusted what do i have to do about that

Paula, there are a number of ways to treat rusted fuel tanks. The extent of the rust will determine how worthy it is of reusing again.

If the tank has rusted through the bottom, it is probably easier to find a good tank on Ebay. 4 year old fuel can be challenging to remove from a tank completely. You might want to check with some local motorcycle shops to see how they do it. If the paint is not a factor, some radiator shops can put it in a hot tank to remove all the rust and scale, but it will strip the paint off of the outside.
