Motorcycle Repair: oil questioon 92 EVO fxlr, rear cylinder, valve guides

Question
QUESTION: Why do i have engine oil collecting on top of piston after shut down. Engine has fresh rebuild including heads. It smokes profusely with oil dripping around exhaust port. Mainly rear cylinder but some from front. After warmup it does clear up,only to happen again next time.

ANSWER: There are two places that oil can come from to get to the top of the pistons. One is the valve guides and the other is around the rings. You are goign to have to pull the heads and check to see what the problem is

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response. However, i may have not been very clear.  I believe the oil is being collected on top of the pistons AFTER the enginue is shut down. the reason i believe it is b being collected there is because when i start it up the oil comes out absolutely everywhere.  thanks so much for your help

Answer
If a valve guide seal has come loose you can get oil on top of the piston when the bike is sitting. I would still pull the heads and check them. If you dont see any problems there, then you will have to pull the cylinders
